Steph Cherry, Life and Youtube in Review

March 6th, 2012

If you don’t know Steph Cherry already, well that’s disappointing and I imagine a little embarrassing. If you do and have always wondered what she thinks about particular pieces of obscure music lifted from youtube. Well we have heard your cries. We have heard them and acted with your cries in mind. However, we found when producing this story we still had to cater for those who didn’t know Steph Cherry as intimately as most. So we’ve integrated a bit of a personal profile in there as well. Steph Cherry is articulate, pretty and very pleasant she is also a Volcommunity ambassador and that’s fine with us.

Volcom: Hey Steph- Sorry have you been waiting long?

Stephanie Cherry: Hey nah it’s cool I’ve just been doing stuff on my computer

Volcom: Cool, so where are you at the moment?

Stephanie Cherry: My bedroom probably the brightest spot in the house at the moment.

Volcom: It hasn’t been the best summer for vitamin D restoration.

Stephanie Cherry: Haha, no it has not. Lol

Volcom: So Steph before we get started, we have a bit of an assignment for you to complete, whilst the interview is being conducted.

Stephanie Cherry: Ehhhh…should I be worried?

Volcom:  Haha, I’m going to send you through some clips. and you are going to listen and watch them while we talk. After one has finished let me know and I’ll send you a new one. Sounds good?

Stephanie Cherry: Ok, that’s cool

Volcom: They will vary in content and quality- so just bare with me. I want you to give it a rating out of five and a little commentary. Ok here’s the first one.

Stephanie Cherry: The song is quite catchy, has a good tune and the video is weird but in a cool way. I give it a 3.

Volcom: Why only 3?

Stephanie Cherry: I’m a tough scorer

Volcom: Ok, next one.

Stephanie Cherry: That clips, not my type of music lol = O

Volcom: How did you find your way into modelling?

Stephanie Cherry: Well I was a dancer ever since I was 2 so I always liked being on stage and in front of the camera. One day my dad saw an commercial on TV for a children acting and modelling agency and thought I’d like to give it a go. We went in for an interview and within a few days I got my first job. As I got older I moved up into the adults agency and when I finished school I started modelling full time.

Volcom: What was your first big break? Can you talk me through it. When, where and who helped you?

Stephanie Cherry: Hmm I’m not really sure. I guess its been a bit of a progression. Once I finished school I changed modelling agencies and moved to Chic Management. They took me under their wing and pushed me for some great jobs and before I knew it my face was popping up in clothing stores and magazines and I was being sent overseas to model. I think the change in agencies and finishing school really helped me take off.

Stephanie Cherry: That clip got 4 out of 5 I’ve always liked that song I think I even danced to it once at a concert growing up.

Volcom: What’s been your favorite place?

Stephanie Cherry: I think Cape Town was definitely one of my favorite places, I didn’t know anything about it before I went and didn’t expect much from it. When I got there the views were amazing and the food was so sweet and fresh it also had a chilled out vibe similar to Sydney.

Volcom: What’s been the most challenging place you’ve visited?

Stephanie Cherry: The most challenging place would have to be Marrakesh. Although it was an amazing place I found it a bit nerve-racking being a women in a Muslim society and not completely knowing their ways and culture. Thankfully we had help from a friend who lived in the city and told us what we could wear and where we could go etc.

Volcom: Ah we have to get a five out of you… that would have been a real shock. Do you feel you understand the culture better now?

Stephanie Cherry: Haha…try harder. Yes I do, I also think I have a better appreciation for it too.

Volcom: In what way?

Stephanie Cherry:
Well they are quite religious five times a day a prayer is sung over loud speakers across the city from the mosques. They would start at 5am in the morning and wouldn’t finish until 8pm at night. At first it was annoying because it kept waking me up, but the longer I was there the less annoying it was and after a while I liked being woken up by the noise and listening to all the speakers all over the city singing their prey in harmony.

Volcom: Do you miss home and your friends when you’re away?

Stephanie Cherry: The clips finished 3.5 out of 5 because the video clip was awesome but the song got annoying after a while.

Stephanie Cherry: Yes all the time, but when you’re running around trying to find your way around an unknown city, trying to get to castings and photo-shoots on time you forget about being lonely and become more independent. Thank god for Skype though! Otherwise I’d be spending a lot of money calling my family every night when I’m away. Most of my friends are at uni or working full time in offices or cafes. I think they enjoy seeing someone they know in magazines and stores because they take photos of themselves standing next to my picture and send it to me. It’s pretty cool.

Volcom: Does it entitle you to a little extra attention at 18th birthday parties?

Stephanie Cherry: You already sent me that song.

Stephanie Cherry: YES LOVE THIS SONG!!!! I’ve heard it before. 10, Haha just kidding 5/5

Stephanie Cherry: Haha no it’s not like that at all. It’s not like I’m a celebrity or anything. Besides they all knew me before I was a model and I haven’t changed much since.

Volcom: Wow! we cracked ya! What about when you hit up the local charcoal chicken? Do they give you a wink and couple extra spoonfuls of coleslaw?

Stephanie Cherry: Haha, I don’t know. I don’t notice the winks.

Volcom: But do you notice the coleslaw?

Stephanie Cherry: Not really, I don’t really like coleslaw. New song?

Stephanie Cherry: Funny song but too repetitive 3.5/5

Volcom: What’s it like rubbing shoulders with the worlds top models?

Stephanie Cherry: It’s pretty cool. I get to make my friends jealous by saying I’ve met Miranda Kerr or Megan Gale knows my name. New song?

Steph Cherry: Are you kidding me?

Volcom:Is it hard at that level to maintain expectations on looks and weight?

Stephanie Cherry: Nah they don’t really take much notice. I guess they have a lot on their plate already.

Volcom: Can you tell us a bit about Volcomunity?

Stephanie Cherry: I love being a part of Volcomunity. I get to show people the things I’m into and what its like to be a model. I get to tell everyone about my travels and what it’s like to live in Australia.

Stephanie Cherry: OK… so that song is a 2.

Volcom: Yeah that song is a bit fruity.

Stephanie Cherry: lol

Volcom: Steph we have to go- but there’s still a couple more questions that didn’t get asked and answered. Can we catch up again some time?

Stephanie Cherry: No worries.

Volcom: Can listen to this and give a review for next time?
