ISAAC PETERSEN

- Isaac Petersen

Born and bred on the coastal shores of New Plymouth’s rugged West Coast (NZ), Isaac Petersen developed his passion for the surf and the sea from an early age. This passion is reflected in all his art. The ever – changing moods of the sea, and the vast West Coast have always captivated my imagination – both as a surfer and as an artist. The fantastic environment I live in, with Mount Taranaki as a backdrop, has inspired me to put my interpretation onto canvas. My art is an expression of my love for this exciting, wild but very beautiful corner of the world. Isaac started surfing at the age of ten, and his love of the surf has never diminished. After excelling in art at school, he studied Graphic Design at Taranaki Polytech, graduating with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in 2003. It was while studying, he sold his first painting. As the demand for his “local landscapes” increased, Isaac started to paint fulltime. Isaac still lives by the sea in New Plymouth. He loves the lifestyle that it affords, and he loves the vast rugged West Coast. It is this landscape that has inspired his paintings, and he has recently included cityscapes in his artwork. He predominantly uses oil on canvas. His works have been taken as far away as Australia, America, England and Europe.
