Finals Day Highlights - 2017 Volcom Pipe Pro

CONGRATULATIONS TO SOLI BAILEY, 2017 VOLCOM PIPE PRO CHAMPION! Finals Day at the Volcom Pipe Pro was unpredictable! We kicked off the morning early with the two remaining heats of Round 3, then we immediately got into Round 4 competition. Waves started off slow as the sun rose over Sunset Elementary, but it wasn’t long before sets started rolling in and guys started dropping some big scores. The first 9-point ride went to Brazil’s Adriano De Souza on a heavy Backdoor wave in his first heat of the competition to secure himself into Round 4. Along with Adriano, Ian Crane, Benji Brand, and Luke Shepardson advanced to the next round. Round 4 saw similar off-beat scores from the inconsistent, yet improving sets, but boys made it happen. Brian Toth kicked off Heat 2 with a solid 6-point ride, while in the last minute of the heat, Kiron Jabour dropped to third place after Soli Bailey secured solid 6.13 score. Heat 3 we saw Mitch Coleborn bag a solid Pipe wave earning himself a 6.17 to push himself into the lead, and right behind him, Koa Smith took off on a similar Pipe wave, although not as deep as Coleborn, and earned himself a 5-point ride. John John Florence once again delivered, dropping a 7.5 score right off the bat, then following it up with a 5.17 and 6.83 to hold the heat. Also getting through Heat 4 was Hawaii’s Hank Gaskell. Heat 5 saw Brazil’s David do Carmo pull off a rocky bottom turn on a Pipe wave and miraculously got spit out with his hands in his air to earn a well-deserved 6.83, while crowd-favorite Mason Ho surprisingly went down due to lack of waves in the heat. The next heat saw more upsets with Makuakai Rothman being knocked out, as well as Yago Dora, who has been in-form the whole event. But it was Bruce Irons, Aritz Aranburu, Lucas Silveira, Luke Shepardson, Adriano De Souza, and Makai McNamara who all coupled good enough scores to move into the Quarterfinals. During the Quarterfinals, the side wind had slightly picked up and turned things a bit messier in the lineup, but there were still some gems to be had. Soli Bailey nabbed a 6.17 on a clean Backdoor right, to add to his previous 4.0, and an on-fire Leandro Usuna from Argentina grabbed a couple mid-range scores, both enough to advance them into the Semifinals. Heat 2 saw slower wave conditions and increased wind as John John Florence, Griffin Colapinto, Mitch Coleborn, and Brian Toth tried battling through the conditions in any way possible. While they were hoping for barrels, it turned out to be turns that prevailed as John John and Griffin each found a Backdoor wave which delivered their advancement. Quarterfinal Heat 3 went nearly 15 minutes before anyone had caught a decent wave, and it was Bruce Irons who delivered the first punch on a smaller Backdoor barrel to receive a well-earned 6.33 score. Along with Bruce, it was David do Carmo to roll into the already-stacked Semifinal heats. Heat 4 was another one for turns, with a sneaky tube seen by Artiz Aranburu. While it was another low-scoring heat with the winds affecting the conditions, Aranburu dropped some heavy turns and advanced with a 11.34 and Adriano De Souza advanced with a 7.50. And there it was, the Semifinals were set! Semifinal 1 saw Australia's Soli Bailey, Argentina's Leandro Usuna, Hawaii's John John Florence, and USA's Griffin Colapinto. John John drew first blood with a couple playful hooks on a Backdoor right, but it was Soli Bailey to find a barrel at Pipe to get the early lead with a 5.0. Things went relatively quiet, and towards the end of the heat, John John was sitting in fourth position and grabbed a one-turn Backdoor right, but it wasn't enough. Soli Bailey dropped a huge 8.17 score near the five-minute mark, and in the dying seconds of the heat, Griffin Colapinto found a clean Backdoor barrel, barely sneaking out the doggy dog, to earn a 7.37, securing his spot in the finals. Semifinal 2 competitors picked up the heat and competition went fierce. An in-rhythm Bruce Irons wowed the fans with a 6.77 barrel, and David do Carmo dropped two solid turns on a Backdoor set wave to receive a 5.83. While Aritz Aranburu and David do Carmo were able to get some solid scores, it was Adriano De Souza who advanced to the Finals, along with Bruce Irons who managed to drop a near-perfect 8.93 score. THE FINALS   With the resurgence of Bruce, the competitive spirit of Adriano, the rookie-hunger of Griffin, and the underdog-hopes of Soli, the final was truly exciting to watch. It started off with a strong paddle battle between Bruce and Adriano for priority, then saw Soli snag a mid-range 5.67 Backdoor tube. With the wind magically switching to slight offshore during the final, it had seemed luck was on their side, but the boys had to wait as a lack of waves keep them searching for a score. A clean-up set caught Soli inside and breaking his leash off causing him to retrieve a backup board from the beach. With nine minutes left, Bruce and Griffin were put in a combo situation when Soli dropped the highest single-wave score of the heat of a 7.33. For the remainder of the final, the waves didn't produce any additional high-scoring potential, which left Soli eagerly counting down the clock to the final second, which he did. Congratulations to all the finalists, and Soli Bailey for being crowned the 2017 Volcom Pipe Pro Champion! Day 1 Highlights - 2017 Volcom Pipe Pro

After many intense lei days on the North Shore of waiting for better weather conditions and optimal swell, the 2017 Volcom Pipe Pro finally kicked off in fun, wedgy conditions with Round 1 surfing. The stormy weather circulating the North Shore the past week moved around the sand at Pipeline which caused the surfers to sit down the beach towards Backdoor and even Off The Wall. There were some insane waves ridden today, heavy wipeouts, and a handful of high scores. Tyler Newton snagged a clean 9-point ride in the Volcom Last Chance Qualifier heat to earn himself a spot into Round 2, and 15-year-old Pipe charger Wyatt McHale secured an equally impressive, and deep, 8.5 earning him a huge applause from the beach. The swell and conditions look promising, but not so much for today. After monitoring the waves for several hours this morning, and working closely with the Surfline Forecasting Team, the contest officials have called competition off for today. We will reassess the surf conditions at dawn tomorrow morning (Jan 30) and make an official call at that time. Follow @volcom on Twitter to get the latest event updates and conditions.     ABOUT 2017 VOLCOM PIPE PRO Volcom is pleased to announce the 2017 Volcom Pipe Pro surf contest! Jackson Pilz - 2016 Australian Skater Of The Year!
'Just when you thought the Skater of the Year party train ended after Kyle Walker won Thrasher's 'Skater of the Year' and Daan van der Linden won 'European Skater of the Year' for the second year in the row, Jackson Pilz has been chosen as Slam Skateboarding's 'Australian Skater of the Year'!!! Three SOTY's, ONE Stone! So how did this all happen for Jackson? Take a look below for a little recap on what Jackson did in 2016! Watch his #HolyStokes! remix part over at the Slam Skateboarding site too! Photo: Arto Saari To start off the year, enjoi skateboards decided to officially put Jackson on the team! As he explains in an interview with Slam Skateboarding "Louie [Barletta], Zack [Wallin], Ben [Raemers] and I had a team dinner sort of thing and we were drinking and talking about enjoi. Then Louie just said, as of now, you're on. Then we drank way more and partied ’til we all blacked out (laughs)." The enjoi team also took a trip down to Australia where Jackson he went on a little demo tour with teammates Ben Raemers and Caswell Berry down the Aussie coast. MASSIVE ollie over the bump to bar! Click the image to see more photos from the #VolcomHailsTheSouthwest trip Photo: Andrew Mapstone We took Jackson on a little roadtrip to Austin, TX with a few of his Aussie mates to film for Holy Stokes! a Real Life Happening. Stories and photos from the trip ended up in Slam Skateboarding Magazine. Some of Jackson's Heaviest footage came from that trip, including the HEAVY bump over bar ollie above. Jackson didn't have a lot of time to film for Holy Stokes! a Real Life Happening, but he came through with some awesome footage! Australlia and Nor Cal were the trips where a good amount of his footage came from, check out the Berrics remix edits above to watch it all go down. To top of an epic year, Jackson's mind melting kickflip over a full size fence was named Street League 'Kickflip of the Year'! Watch all of the attempts above. Congrats, Jackson! We can't wait to see what 2017 holds for you!

Daan Van Der Linden 2016 European Skater Of The Year
It's been one crazy year for Daan van der Linden and to top it all of he was awarded with not only 'Video Part of the Year' for his part in Holy Stokes! a Real Life Happening , but he was also crowned 'European Skater of the Year' for the SECOND year in a row at the Bright European Skateboard Awards in Berlin, Germany! Let's take a brief look at what Daan has accomplished in the past year below. After last years announcement that Daan was crowned 2015's 'European Skater of the Year' we added him to the global skate team, Vans and Anti-Hero also followed suit. To recap his 2015 we put together 'Volcom Presents: Real Life Happening - Daan van der Linden' which was a compilation of all his best clips of the year. Daan Backside Noseblunt on the July issue of Thrasher, came with a FREE poster and sticker too! Photo: Keppens Prior to the release of our latest full length video Holy Stokes! a Real Life Happening , Daan landed himself on the cover of Thrasher Magazine's July issue with a NBD noseblunt in San Francisco that ended his part in the video. Daan making it look way too easy on this cobblestone tight tranny transfer in Chinatown, NYC Photo: Saari Many were amazed at Daan's part in Holy Stokes! a Real Life Happening , Vans and Anti-Hero also put Daan on their global teams which led to more trips and footage. After Holy Stokes! a Real Life Happening's release in Los Angeles, we took Daan on the road for the premiere tour from SF to NYC and around the world. Check out the afternoon we spent in NYC the day before the New York City premiere!   In his Thrasher interview, Daan was asked which trip he enjoyed the most while filming for Holy Stokes! a Real Life Happening . His response was the one we went on to Australia & New Zealand with Thrasher to visit our friend Lee Ralph. With a heavy crew and great spots, Thrasher filmer P-Stone had to make 3 edits with all the footage, not to mention that New Zealand also had an entire section in Holy Stokes! a Real Life Happening . Speaking of excess footage, we can't forget Daan's 'Over Stokes' and footage in the Euro Stokes edit too! In July we headed back to NYC for the Volcom X Anti Hero collection video that turned into Thrasher Magazine's The Vickie Report In August Anti Hero surprised Daan in Copenhagen by turning him PRO. Thrasher Magazine's P-Stone was along for the ride to capture it all.   Lastly, Daan hopped in the van with us in Austin, Texas to head out to Sound on Sound Music Festival. After Kyle Walker won Skater of the Year he met up with us in San Francisco for the partyand is currently back in Australia with Kyle Walker on his Skater of the Year trip! Two SOTY's in the same year on the same team!

WELCOME HOME NOA DEANE
Noa Deane hears Mudhoney. He speaks his own tongue. He chooses tweaked-out throwaways over the same ol' end section air-revos. He hates when shit is cooked, loves when it’s fucken sick. Noa digs oversized tees and loose-fitting jeans, and bunny hops into rock slab pits. His Thrasher hat got stolen at a Goons of Doom gig. Did you steal it? Give it back. Nah, it’s cool, he got a new one for Christmas. Noa loves his mom and dad, loves playing his strat super loud in his bedroom all by himself, loves his mates… absolutely fucken loves them. He’s right into his girl, but he keeps that on the down-low because he wants to give her space, doesn’t want to smother her. He knows the value of lightness. Noa lives in a shed in Ozzie Wright’s backyard, he had photos of Oz on his wall as a grom. Had photos of Alien, of Barney, of Bruce. He wanted to ride for the Stone even then. Couldn’t say why, but could feel why. Freedom. Kin. Moxie. The Stone was fizzing with it. He knew one day it would happen, but first… the usual rounds: boardriders, grom bashings, Nationals, stickers, passports, surf trips, magazine covers, :), Tuff, busted ankles, Cheese II, Strange Rumblings, A.I. Breakthrough, “surfs like Dane, looks like Cobain,” Skegss, Cluster, …the WSL, Pulp, and Blister, until he suddenly arrived here, at this moment, right now. The start of the rest of his life… Noa is a good person. A person who can change people’s perceptions about surfing for the better just by being himself, saying what he thinks, surfing how he feels. He’s the antidote to surfing with a plan, a torch to the spreadsheets that turn riding oceans into a pile of stinking numbers. He’s got the DNA of every surfing miscreant and rabble-rouser and hot-blooded purist in his veins, and the delightful ignorance of youth on his side. He’s the living, breathing embodiment of the Stone. If Volcom had a baby, Noa Deane would be it. Welcome Home... Marcus Kleveland Wins 2017 Rookie Of The Year
A huge congratulations goes out to 17 year old Marcus Kleveland for winning the Men's Snowboarder Magazine Rookie of the Year! Our young Norwegian rider has been on quite the tear this past season by landing on top of a couple key contest podiums and stirring up the daily social feed with mind-melting and innovative NBD video clips. Being one of, if not the, youngest rider to land a quadruple cork (as seen in above video), it comes as no surprise that Snowboarder Magazine awarded him Rookie of the Year for 2017. With heavy momentum going into the thick of the 2016/17 winter season, we look forward to what is to come for young Marcus!   CLICK TO SEE FULL FEATURE
