    SCOTTY JAMES OLYMPIC PODIUM PARTY

If you were in Australia over the past few weeks and you happened to turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper, no doubt you would have heard the name Scotty James more than a few times. Whilst you were enjoying the Aussie Summer, Scotty was in a very cold Korea representing Australia at the highest level in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Holding the Aussie flag and leading out the rest of the Australian team, Scotty made Australia proud. Most of Australia tuned in to support Scotty, embracing all those emotions as he competed in the Pipe, giving Australian’s the feeling of being right there on the slopes amongst the Korean snow. Scotty left Australia, a bloke from Warrandyte, VIC and came home a hero, becoming an Aussie legend to all those Australians that followed his journey to Korea, where he snagged Bronze in Men’s Pipe. To Volcom, Scotty has always been a hero and to show their gratitude to Scotty, whether they are Aussie, American or from anywhere in this extreme sports world - Volcom OZ and Easey Street Group put on a party to welcome back and congratulate Scotty in a way like no other. With Scotty’s family and friends on the guest list, along with Volcom family, you would have wished you were in Melbourne that night. As you enter the Easey Street venue, you were greeted with a glass of celebratory champagne from a bar that didn’t go dry the whole night. Tasty local beers were supplied by Goose Island and even tastier burgers from Easyes, accompanied by the best potato gems I have ever sampled. Our senses were being treated. At this stage, Scotty was definitely the most popular man in the house, with everyone there wanting to get a hold of that Olympic Bronze medal. I can tell you it was more than impressive, it’s the real deal with some solid weight behind it.  As the night went on and those attending got merrier and merrier, Volcom’s Shane Azar had a few surprises in store for Scotty. DJ - Sean James put the music on hold and all turned to the big screen where a mix of absolute legends across all sports congratulated Scotty on his Bronze from abroad. Just watching Scotty’s reactions to the video showed you just how special it was to him, a very touching piece indeed. To keep the emotions going, Shane presented Scotty with a one of a kind custom ring, crafted right here in Melbourne by Adam from Broken Lock. Unlike the Bronze medal, it could be worn everyday as a memento of Scotty’s achievement. A toast was had in the form of a “Garry Ablett”, a popular drink with the Volcom Snow Team (shot of coffee slammed into a beer then skulled in one hit). And then the madness began. The madness that is Barbarian... A metal band not from this century. Smoke, fire, blood sweat and some tears, a Barbarian show is like no other. If you were not Metal before the show, you are Metal now! The crowd participation was incredible, on what capped off an amazing night to celebrate an outstanding achievement by Scotty James. SCOTTY JAMES SNOWBOARDING WITH TUNNEL VISION

Scotty James on snowboarding with a focused energy, a tunnel vision that stems from his addiction and love of the sport. Scotty James in an Australian-born snowboarder that has been hitting the slopes since his childhood. First competing on the international circuit when he was 13-years old, Scotty obtained a liking to halfpipe snowboarding and slopestyle events where over the years he has proven himself time and time again as a top contender and serious threat to the competition. Already a multi-time world champion of the sport and considered as one of the best snowboarders in the world, at 23-years old, Scotty James is just getting started. While Scotty primarily focuses on snowboard tricks that can relate to the halfpipe and slopestyle events, he is happiest when he is simply snowboarding, in any capacity. For Scotty James, being true to something is being true to your passion, and that passion is snowboarding. It's an addiction. It's his happiness. And he's damn good at it! What was the very first snowboard video you watched that got you hooked? SJ: I can't remember the first video I ever watched, but one that pops up in my head is JP Solberg's part from Transcendence in 2002 I believe. I was about eight-years old and watched that movie over and over again! What was it that made you like that video so much? SJ: I've always loved his style of riding and the bunny suit he wears through most of his part was pretty entertaining, especially for an eight-year old! How does that video still inspire you today? SJ: Transcendence and the riders in that movie still inspire me today because it was all about style and how good you could make tricks look without going upside down a thousand times. Riders like Gigi, Romain deMarchi, and Wolle Nyvelt all showed that style, above everything else, is gold. What activities are you into other than Snowboarding? SJ: I spend a lot of time surfing whenever I can. It's the only thing I can really do that relates to snowboarding. I've tried to skate, but I just end up in pain someway or another! Do those activities translate or influence your snowboarding in anyway? SJ: The fluidity and power that you see when watching surfers is definitely something that I think influences my riding. Working the board and enjoying the ride is what it's all about.

Volcom Welcomes Hailey Langland to Global Snow Team

Hailey Langland has been making a name for herself since she started snowboarding at age five. She exists in changing time zones, her passport stamped with groomer laps, take-offs and landings. She's got a front three that floats for days and radiates a style that's beyond her years. She grew up paddling into waves and pushing down streets in beachside San Clemente, CA. She first made turns at Bear Mountain and now calls Mammoth’s Main Park home, both proving grounds for sovereign snowboarders. She's fluid and explosive. She has a method that turns heads. It's the kind of kick-out that can't be learned. It's built-in from birth, harkening the past that's built for the future. We can't be more excited to welcome Hailey to the Volcom Family. She brings an impressive past, a promising future, and an unmatched personality which radiates passion and perseverance. While she joins us now, she has always been destined to the Stone. It was only a matter of time for the stars to align, and that time is now. Hailey Langland. Photo: Mike Pham // @phamuel "I'm psyched to be joining the Volcom Family! It's a dream come true to be part of a family that's much bigger than just snowboarding. I can't wait to see where this journey takes me." Hailey’s collection of heavy medals is already plush, though she’s truly just getting started. She landed a first-ever cab double ten in the 2017 X Games and earned her first Aspen gold. See? Just getting started. She’s logged time on podiums around the world. Slopestyle? Check. Big Air? Check. Three years in a row, she’s won the Drink Water Rat Race—a banked slalom where just getting to the bottom is a victory. And Hailey’s been the fastest. Three times. She’s the future of women’s slopestyle, yet her ease and authority with which she puts down tricks stretches far beyond contest boundaries. She’s the future of women’s snowboarding. Scratch that. She’s the future of snowboarding. Hailey wearing the Taylor Jacket (available in 3 colorways). Photo: Vernon Deck // @vernondeck Hailey's energy and style are pure Volcom. I’m super hyped on what she brings to the program. She's got full approval from the team. It's on!!!" -Remy Stratton, SVP Global Skate & Snow Hailey is serious about style and truly loves to ride. It's visible in every turn she makes, every slash, and every air she attempts. It's not fabricated. It's natural. Established at a very young age. At only seventeen, she's both a beacon to snowboarding's roots and a flare to the future, lighting up what's possible when talent, grit, and creativity are fused together. She says, "I cannot stress it enough how much style matters. We're all becoming robots out there, it's driving me freakin' nuts." Hailey on a recent trip in Saas'Fee, a resort village in the Swiss Alps. She has been True To This since she first stood sideways, but now, with the nourishment of the Stone, she can further feed her freedom of expression, and we are so stoked to welcome her to the family.

Interview With Alec Majerus On Cancel History
About a month or so ago we had an idea to have a skateboarder, surfer and snowboarder do all 3 board sports in the same day to celebrate the release of our Cancel History collection. Southern California is one of the few places where we could actually pull this off, so we enlisted skateboarders Alec Majerus, Omar Hassan, legendary snowboarder Jamie Lynn and surfer Noa Deane to hit the slopes of Mt. High, waves of Newport Beach and our very own skatepark here at Volcom HQ. Outfitted in original Volcom tee designs from the 90's it was just like the old days, 20 plus years later, but the vibe and true Volcom spirit was still the same. Snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding in the same day is no easy task, so we decided to have a brief chat with Alec Majerus, who he was actually snowboarding up in Big Sky, Montana with his family, to get his take on the day. Hey Alec, how is it going what you been up to? Good man, just been skating and snowboarding a lot lately. We know your rip on a skateboard, but how long have you been snowboarding and surfing? I've been snowboarding since I was like 8. I've only surfed a few times though Alec spraying powder at Mt. High I heard you and your friends were psyched on snowboarding, surfing and skating in the same day, have you ever tried to do that before? Nah I haven't done that before. It's always been a goal of mine. What was the hardest part? The snowboarding, surfing or skating? The surfing was so hard because the waves were pretty big and I was getting smoked Noa Deane and Alec getting ready to surf.   How much did you snowboard back home in Minnesota? I used to do a lot of backyard snowboarding growing up because I couldn't skate. A lot of people say snowboarding and skateboarding are very similar but still different, what are your thoughts? Do you find snowboarding easier since you rip so hard on a skateboard? Yea I think if you can skate you can easily learn to snowboard and vice versa You’ve skated some pretty monster rails but have you ever hit one on a snowboard? Yea I lipslid and 5050 on a 16 when I was younger Noa, Alec and Omar post surf sesh I remember you were living in a studio apartment in Huntington Beach with all your Minnesota homies for a minute. Did you ever surf when you were living by the beach?  Nah, I didn't surf until I moved to Costa Mesa. Wish I would have took advantage of that though! Between the dudes you did this epic day with, Jamie Lynne, Noa Deane and Omar Hassan, who were you more impressed with as far watching them do a board sport they’re not known for? Noa said he had never snowboarded before and we took him to the top and he did it without falling. I was tripping on that. After snowboarding and surfing Alec still had enough fuel in the tank to pop off the walls.
