Jasmin Meier, better known as Harley & J, is an Australian based graphic designer & illustrator. Her designs are inspired by the natural world and human form, combined with 60’s & 70’s psychedelic music posters. We sat down with Jas to ask her a few questions about what inspired her collection for Volcom.

Where are you based? And what do you do?

Lennox Head, in the Northern rivers NSW. I'm a freelance Graphic designer, I do Album covers, Gig posters, textiles designs and placement prints.

What are you inspired by?

A combination of nature, music and everyday life.

Where do you pull inspiration from?

All around me, nature, people, what's going on in the world, what I'm feeling, photo's, my favourite artists, there really is inspiration everywhere you look!

What made you want to do a capsule with Volcom?

I've always been a fan of Volcom since a young teen, so I was very excited when I first heard from you guys.

What inspired the Volcom collection?

Nature, my number one inspiration.

Where does your love for the 60’s and 70’s come from?

My parents. We grew up listening to David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd etc. I love flicking through their photo album of them in their teens/twenties with their long hair, flares and panel vans. It truly looked like the best time, and I'll always be a bit jealous I didn't get to grow up amongst all of that.

How does nature play a part in your designs?

She is the number one inspiration for almost all my work. If it's not flowers and mushrooms, it's the Sun and Moon, the female form, rainbows, leaves, stars, the list goes on.

What is your favourite piece from the collection?

The bardot style top, such a romantic piece <3

If you had to describe the collection in three words, what would they be?

Whimsical, soft and fun!
