Meet Volcom Women's Head Designer, Kelly Summer
WE SAT DOWN WITH OUR HEAD DESIGNER, KELLY SUMMER, AND GOT THE INSIDE SCOOP ON HER FAVORITE VOLCOM WOMEN’S DESIGNS AND INSPIRATIONS!
Hear what went into these designs, how she would style them, trends she loves, and more, as Kelly picks her favorites from the Volcom’s Women’s collection.
“Any rock and roll rebel has a leopard fur coat. My favorite of all time has to be Alabama in True Romance, this is our tribute to this forever inspiring icon of ours! Hidden inside is a screen print of a Volcom vampire lady. We are always trying to keep things weird around here.”
Velour You In Pants
“Another style that you can so easily dress up or down! I wear these to fly in or wear to work because they are so comfy, but still super cute! My go-to pairing is a vintage tee and an oversized denim jacket. This Volcom-branded elastic is new for the season and we wanted to use it as a throwback to sportswear, but in a luxe fabric. With the elasticated waist, you can wear them high or low and slouchy and there’s a hidden side zip at the hem, so don’t miss that!”
GMJ PULLOVER FLEECE HOODIE
“We wanted this to look like a men’s hoody, but once you feel this fabric you realize it’s much more than that. It’s a no-brainer. Super soft brush back fleece with stones down the sleeve!”
VELOUR YOU IN DRESS
“I love something that you can dress up or down, and this is the perfect grungy dress layered with a baby tee and docs. This pink is so pretty on all skin tones. I like that our little black dress is pink!”
TEAM VOLCOM JACKET
“I love classic coaches jackets. When we started adding these into the collection, we were stealing from the guys and adding our own graphic hit, but for holiday, we wanted something a little more novelty, so we updated it in this heavy satin fabric, but kept the boyfriend fit and skate inspired graphic. I think the mix up, plus the rich dark green color, makes a really fresh style.”
TEAM VOLCOM SHORTS
“We found a men’s 70’s mini runner short when vintage shopping for inspiration and thought it would be a cute hook up for the Team Volcom Jacket. Mixing the satin with sporty design details and fit looks so cute, but we had to push it a little further by adding the ‘cheeky’ stoned print across the back. I love how you can style them super high waisted or pull them lower.”
GMJ VELVET TANK
“Working with Georgia May Jagger for her holiday collection, we were inspired by the 90s and how girls were rocking their boyfriend jeans and chinos with cute crop tops. We wanted to add a bit of velvet to mix with what we were taking from the boys. I love this style because you can wear it two ways: the zip can be at the front or the back. Team it with her tartan Frochickie, add a wallet chain, and you have the perfect outfit.”
