VOLCOM’S JOURNEY TO A NEW FUTURE BEGAN HUMBLY MORE THAN 12 YEARS AGO AND HAS CONTINUED TO EVOLVE EVER SINCE.
It’s an ongoing effort of turning sustainability commitments into actions with responsible manufacturing practices, better fiber sourcing, assessing our impacts, and meaningful give backs. One more way, that Volcom remains, True to This.
FAIR LABOR ASSOCIATION
In February of 2018, Volcom was officially voted in by the Fair Labor Association (FLA) as an accredited 'member;' an achievement Volcom has had its sights set on since 2014. It's a badge that sets the brand apart and recognizes the commitment and diligence that has been put into our social compliance program over the last twelve years.
Volcom is working with Textile Exchange to help ensure integrity in our supply chain thanks to their expertise in more sustainable fiber selection, animal welfare and product processing, and preferred fiber measurement and benchmarking. As a member of Textile Exchange and a Responsible Down 'Scope Certified Brand' we also contribute to the work they are doing to enhance and improve the Responsible Down Standard (RDS).
MORE THAN COMPLIANCE
Volcom’s P.A.S.S. (Product And Social Safety) program ensures our products are built responsibly and in compliance with the highest social and chemical regulatory practices; Robust audit protocol, purchasing policies and testing programs that go above and beyond what’s “just required.”
The Volcom Giveback Series™ continues to support and bring awareness to organizations meaningful to our stakeholders (that’s you, that’s us). Since its inception, the program has generated more than a half million dollars for our non-profit partners and other community initiatives.
We are committed to increasing both the amount of recycled content in our polyester and nylon as well as the usage of organic, recycled and/or better cotton* in Volcom products, so that by the end of 2020, 20% of our most important fibres are from preferred sources.
*For Volcom better cotton might consist of organic, recycled, CMiA, BCI, or other cotton sources with an improved environmental and social impact.
Volcom will integrate Eco-True sustainability stories across all facets of the Volcom's consumer facing marketing.
EDUCATING & TRAINING
By the end of 2020, Volcom aims to create an internal Volcom employee and leadership New Future sustainability certification program with at least 90% of employees completing certification.
CLOSING THE LOOP
With an eye on the future, Volcom will develop a program that resembles our Give Jeans a Chance program so that used Volcom products can be collected, processed and either donated or kept for closed loop manufacturing in the future (hopefully a future that's not too far off).
